Great Books for Young Writers

Hundreds of books have been written to help children and young adults improve their writing. Here is a list of my personal favourites. (I'm sad to say that several are hard to find in stores. But they're all in my local library. I hope you can find a copy.)

David L. Harrison, Writing Stories (Scholastic, 2004)

Allan Wolf, Immersed in Verse: An Informative, Slightly Irreverent and Totally Tremendous Guide to Living the Poet's Life, illustrated by Tuesday Mourning (Lark Books, 2006)

Anne Mazer and Ellen Potter, Spilling Ink: A Young Writer's Handbook, Illustrated by Matt Phelan (Roaring Brook Press, 2010)

Victoria Hanley, Seize the Story: A Handbook for Teens who like to Write (Cottonwood, 2008)

Joe Rhatigan, In Print! 40 Cool Publishing Projects for Kids (Lark Books, 2003)
