Creative Writing
Welcome to the Cabin
When Covid-19 cancelled visits to public schools, I developed a creative writing podcast — with the help of a few dozen other children’s writers — to serve as a virtual author visit in the 2020-2021 school year. The show, “Cabin Tales for Young Writers,” features spooky stories, author interviews, and plenty of writing exercises, advice, and prompts. The content is evergreen, so give it a listen.
Season One features 8 two-part thematic episodes; Season Two features the leftovers of interviews with each guest author; Teaching Tools features brief clips from each episode to help listeners to write their own tales.
Learn about characterization, setting, plotting, and other creative writing topics in two-part episodes featuring spooky stories, author interviews, excerpts and exercises.
Hear more from Tim Wynne-Jones, Caroline Pignat, Monique Polak, Cary Fagan, and two dozen other great Canadian authors featured in Season One.
No stories or interviews, just excerpts, exercises, and writing prompts culled from Season One to help your creative writing class.
My students and I really enjoyed your podcast! It was so useful and motivating for kids with their creative writing in this genre.
