Pick a card, any card. Read a fortune. Or write a story.
(I’m not a believer in the supernatural — you can find my motivation for this page in my tarot tales blog post — but I love tiny pictures and old tales and explorations of the path we think we’re on. Stories spawn stories, and these beautiful cards tell stories that might spawn a few of yours.)
Click on a name to get to a card description; click on an image to get to a page of writing prompts. Through either page, you can navigate to a reading of the card, should you be so inclined.
One day I may condense all this into a series of one-pagers. (It’s a lot right now — but there’s a lot to learn with tarot, and the more you know, the more inspired you’ll be.)
If you write a story based on one of my prompts, I’d love to hear about it!
Tarot Reading
If you want a tarot reading, sorry, I don’t do that (except with friends and family). But there are oodles of tarot readers today, from practicing witches to mindless bots. It’s probably most fun to go in person with a bunch of friends (I’ve never tried it), but it’s surprisingly fun (and totally free) to try it online without any personal interaction at all, just you and the cards.
Check out Tarotoo.com, a superfun no-strings site that offers a variety of free readings to entertain you and prompt some self-reflection.
All images in this gallery are from Tarot Balbi, a Marseilles-inspired deck by artist Domenico Balbi. That was the first tarot deck I bought (while touring Spain in 1989) and it’s the deck I usually read from. (But it’s not the only deck I own or admire — you’ll find images from many other decks in every card post.)
